More about me...
I am originally from Louisville, but have returned from living in Texas for 24 years. After a fair amount of soul-searching, I decided to follow my passion. I grew up with cats, 57 years experience in all (!). More recently I have volunteered for the Alley Cat Advocates, a Trap/Neuter/Return organization here in Louisville. Some of my tasks there have included trapping, grooming, & handling all types, shapes & sizes of felines. I owe much to what I have learned about cats from working with the ACA and their Big Fixes.
Jake, Lucy and Cassie
My first dog was a Blue Heeler named Jake. He was a handful of a foundling, and most decidedly not a recommended starter-dog for a former cat-person. I had never had a dog, so I chose to learn everything there was to know about health, training, communication with, and behavior of, dogs. I started with him, and never stopped. Jake and I even got our Good Canine Certificate.
That was 19 years ago. Since then I have also worked as a volunteer for the Richardson [TX] Humane Society as a handler responsible for the welfare of dogs at adoption events, and have handled a wide variety of dogs since becoming a pet sitter here in Louisville in 2009.
Meet Anne - the young 'un
Anne joined me in November, 2011. She was looking for work walking dogs. I was at a point in the business I thought I'd have to turn away any new mid-day or overnight clients, or clone myself.
Then a dear friend, whom I have known since (literally before) she was born, asked, "Hey, do you ever need help?" Life-saver Accepted!
Less than half my age, she knows twice what I know about dogs. Her entire working life has been handling, managing, and training our canine pals. Needless to say, I'm impressed.
We share similar work ethics and deep love of critters of all sorts. McElroy Pet Care is now a "we." YAY!
A few words from herself:
I love working with all animals and making sure they feel like I'm a part of their extended family. I like building relationships with each pet and gaining their trust, so that when I am taking care of them, they can be worry free and relaxed (unless of course we're having too much fun to relax). Animals have brought so much joy into my life that I am motivated to bring joy into their lives as well.
